NMS Announces the Completion and Opening of its New Mentor Office

January 26, 2017

(Mentor, Ohio) – Joseph Michalski today announces the completion of construction and opening of NMS new Mentor office. “After a multi-year renovation and restoration of the former Mentor Village Hall building, we are very gratified to have completed this important project. This building is an architectural and historical gem and very important in the history of Mentor.”

Built in 1882, the building has been home to Mentor’s government, police, fire, library, and other municipal services. It has also been used for office, professional, and retail businesses over the years. In December of 2013, it was acquired by an affiliate of NMS for a planned relocation of its Mentor accounting and tax offices. NMS petitioned the U. S. Department of the Interior to place the building on the National Register of Historic Places, which was granted in 2014. Thereafter, it restored the building. In December of 2016, NMS moved its Mentor offices into the building.

NMS has a long history in adaptive reuse. Shawn Neece, managing director of NMS, expresses NMS’ commitment to restoring historic buildings. “We love the important historic buildings in the communities we serve; we are happy to have a role in restoring and repurposing these buildings for a modern, 21st century use. Businesses strive to incorporate sustainable practices in their operations. Restoration and adaptive reuse is the ultimate ‘green project’. We are recycling buildings.” NMS has previously restored the Old Chardon Post Office, which now serves as its Chardon office and corporate headquarters. Additionally, NMS advised and two of its directors co-developed the restoration and adaptation of the Historic Ashtabula Hotel in downtown Ashtabula, which is now a medical office building.

NMS is proud to partner with JCI Contractors in its historic renovation and construction efforts. Charles Borsukoff, President of JCI, discusses NMS and JCI’s partnership: “We have a long history with NMS and their directors. JCI and NMS have shared values and sincerely believe that our communities’ historic places are deserving and worthy of preservation and protection.”

Neece continues, “This complex historic preservation project was accomplished through a public-private partnership. We are appreciative of the support of Erie Bank, the United States and Ohio in awarding tax credits for the project, and the city of Mentor for assisting with tax abatement, an economic development grant, and financing. Throughout the entire project, the City was great to work with. It is ‘Better in Mentor’, and we are happy to be here.”

NMS will have a dedication and open house for the public, the date of which will be announced later.
